Level 1 Yin Yoga Training with Josh Summers
At Yoga Le Gra, Cork 24th to 27th June 2017.
This training is 30 hrs over 4 days. It is suitable for Yoga teachers and trainees who want to incorporate yin yoga into their teaching and also for people who just want to deepen their understanding of Yin Yoga! Yin Yoga trains and strengthens the Yin tissues of the body, the Yin energy of the subtle body, and the Yin capacities of Mind and Heart.

This training will be taught by Josh Summers.
Josh is licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Medicine. He holds a Masters in Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University. Josh recently co-founded the metaMind Institute, a mindfulness-based strategy firm, and co-wrote The Buddha’s Playbook: Strategies for Enlightened Living, available here. He co-teaches a course at Boston University called Mindfulness and Performance.
Josh began studying Iyengar yoga in the early nineties with James Murphy. Since then he has spent several years living abroad in India, Taiwan and Burma where he has studied both yoga and meditation. As his interest in vipassana or insight meditation has developed, so too has his interest in more contemplative forms of yoga practice. With a professional background in Oriental Medicine and a personal passion for the dharma, Josh fell in love with Yin Yoga as a beautiful synthesis of these two interests.
Josh studied Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley and trained in Yin Yoga with Sarah Powers. His primary meditation teachers have been Sayadaw U Pandita, Ajahn Amaro, and Rodney Smith. Currently, Josh studies Pragmatic Dharma with Kenneth Folk.
Josh’s yoga and meditation classes emphasize safe alignment, the cultivation of moment-to-moment awareness and the potential for freedom in the here and now. For current class schedules and other resources, please check the Meditation and Yin Yoga pages.
On this training, you will :
Practice the core Yin asanas, and explore the difference between Aesthetic Alignment and Functional Alignment; how skeletal variation affects range of motion and alignment considerations; principles of tension and compression in asana
Learn four Yin sequences that work on specific meridian lines in the body, with relevant modifications and adjustments
Understand the positive physiological effects of Yin Yoga on the fascia, connective tissue and joint health
Learn the core concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine and how the energy system is influenced by the practice of Yin Yoga, emphasis on Meridian and Organ health
Acquire experiential and theoretical knowledge of the Buddha’s core teachings on mindfulness meditation which is a great framework for integrating meditative themes into Yin classes or personal practice
The Training is suitable for those both interested in teaching Yin Yoga or for those who simply wish to deepen their understanding of the practice
Students will receive a certificate of training which is eligible for Continuing Education credit (30hrs) with the Yoga Alliance.
The training will be held at Yoga Le Gra in Cork City. This is a beautiful centre which is fully propped and has free parking directly outside.

The closest airport is Cork and there is a bus station that runs into Cork City
The price of the training is 475 euros
Booking in advance is essential as there are limited places.
Deposit price is 200 euros.
Deposits are refundable up to 6 weeks before the training minus a 50 euros admin cost.
OPTIONAL VINYASA MORNINGS
There maybe an option to take part in early morning Vinyasa mornings. The classes will be from 7.00 – 8.30 a.m. and are only open to teachers. The cost is 20 euros per class.

What is the difference between Yin 1 and Yin 2 training?
Yin 1 is for qualified teachers who want to teach Yin Yoga and use the course as CPD credits. It is also for people who are not teachers who want to develop their understanding of Yin Yoga. It covers Yin postures in relation to acupuncture meridian lines and also includes a mindfulness element.
You do not have to do Yin 1 before doing Yin 2, although if you have not done Yin 1, you should have some experience in Yin Yoga. This does not teach the fundamentals of Yin yoga like Yin 1 does. It does teach some posture work, but is more geared towards mindfulness and mediation.
Yoga Alliance and CPD credits
CPD credit is for someone who is already qualified 200 cert with Yoga Alliance UK and USA. Teachers with a 200 hr cert have to do at least 8 hours with Yoga Alliance UK of CPD credits per year to maintain their status. Yoga Alliance UK CPD credits can accumulate towards registration at the higher levels. Yoga Alliance USA does not allow students to accumulate CPDs towards higher accreditation. They work with 2 levels; 200 hr and 300 hr and the 300 hr needs to be taken with one training body in one chunk.
