This is a physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually demanding experience. It is both intense and wonderful. Expect to bend, sweat, ache, collapse, stand up, strengthen, open, cry and giggle. Expect also to move deeper into relationship with the core nature of who you are, to connect with your authentic self and to learn how to spread the teachings of yoga from that place.
This TTC consists of 9 weekends plus one weeklong retreat over 10 months.

Hello! My name is Carol Murphy. I love exploring yoga asana, anatomy, Ayurveda and everything to do with philosophy; I also love (raw/) vegan cooking and meditation!
I started Green Lotus Yoga teacher training school in 2007. Since then I have graduated over 200 teachers from my training throughout Ireland and abroad. Most of my work is in Ireland but I have also taught yoga in London, California, India, South Africa, Morocco and Spain.
I like to teach Vinyasa style yoga as mindful, strengthening, slow, deep, breath-centered movement, creating various forms and threads to keep things alive. I am practising yoga 27 years and teaching 20. My background is in Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa,. I am currently finishing up studies in Neuro-muscular therapy, which is a form of physical therapy that works with kinetic chains and acknowledges the interconnected nature of the body, just like yoga does…
In addition to the above, I have 2 degrees in philosophy <3. I have studied Ayurveda and yoga therapy in India. I am a raw vegan educator (although not 100% vegan or raw), a qualified sports massage therapist, a trained Art of Being Tantra instructor, a qualified Trance Dance teacher and I practice and study the Reiki Tummo Method, which combines open heart meditations with reiki and kundalini healing work.
These gifts created solidity and ground from which I can rise and fly, roots and wings, creating safety, balance, expansion and joy in my life and for this I am grateful.

I attended my first yoga class in my early twenties and for years I practiced intermittently with various teachers; setting the foundations in my body for mindful, breath synchronised movement. However, I feel my real journey along the path began when I was fortunate enough to stumble into one of Carol Murphy’s classes. Her dedication inspired me to commit to a daily practice and that’s when the magic started to happen! In 2009 I completed my teacher training with Carol at Green Lotus Yoga and have been teaching and practicing daily since then. I continue to deepen my practice by attending workshops with senior teachers regularly and travel to India as often as I can.
As I delve deeper into yoga I continue to be amazed; observing as old blockages get released and new patterns in my body and mind begin to align. I’m passionate about teaching what I’ve learned and guiding others along their journey. Looking forward to joining the green lotus teacher training team in 2016!

‘Gary O’Toole is a Vedic astrologer, Ayurvedic lifestyle counsellor, and yoga and fitness instructor. He has two decades of study in Vedic astrology, yoga and Ayurveda and has been teaching and consulting for more than ten years. He trained as a yoga instructor with Green Lotus Yoga and as a fitness instructor with the University of Limerick. He is the author of ‘Cosmic Bodies: The Ayurvedic Astrology Guide to Exercise & Well-Being’. He combines all of these practices in his own daily life and in helping his clients come to a deeper understanding of their unique nature and lifestyle needs’.
The asana taught on this Teacher Training course is physically challenging, creative, alignment-orientated and fun!. In the classroom, Carol likes to play with a series of vinyasa threads (sequences of postures, link with the breath) that she has developed over the years and adapt them to the needs of her group to help move students deeper into practice, safely and with awareness. Carol also teaches technique classes where poses are broken down bio-mechanically and brings the yoga anatomy off the page. She always allows for mixed level in her group by offering various expressions of the poses and encouraging students to work to their own level. The initial focus is creating a solid foundation for practice and deeper awareness of the body anatomy and alignment. When the group clicks with the foundation, the practice will take off into more advanced work and students will be encouraged to work to their own ability.
This training places a lot of emphasis on preparing new teachers to teach Level 1 and 2 classes. After asana, teaching skills is the second most important subject. Teachers will learn a foundation series and then adapt it playfully, within specific guidelines, as an expression of their unique voice. Teachers will prepare a class, including breathwork, asana, music play list if used, and shavasana and teach it to the group as a teaching exercise. These focus of these classes is decided by the trainee; teachers may teach a relaxing beginners class or an upbeat level 2 core class. Teachers will also learn about the common issues that arise in the classroom and how to address them, whether they be physical ailments like slipped disc or high blood pressure, or boundary issues like people arriving late, not paying etc. Teachers are also shown how to dip their teaching into level 3 poses and after graduation teachers have the freedom to teach to the level they can practice comfortably.
The yoga anatomy taught on the 200 hr trainings primarily uses biomechanics as a foundation for practice. Biomechanics informs us exactly which muscles are contracted and released in different asanas, which muscles are the agonists (the primary movers), the antagonists (the muscles released) and the synergists (the assisting muscles of the primary mover). This can really offer yoga students a lot of insight as to how their body works in relation to asana and allows for safety, ease and intelligence in practice. Myo-fascial anatomy trains outline the muscle chains in the body and explains how they are connected in relation to movement. They teach us of how the body moves from an interconnected perspective and assist greatly in students developing their practice. The Trains are addressed in ore detail on the 300 hr, but a foundation for them is given on the 200 hr. The anatomy allows students to dive into a deeper relationship with their bodies on and off the mat. Students find when they know exactly which muscles to strengthen and release on the mat and why, they find more confidence to diver deeper into the practice. These classes will also equip you to understand what is happening in other people’s bodies, not just your own.
This training gives the basics of Ayurveda, the sister science of Yoga, that is concerned with health and well-being. You will learn your dosha (constitution) and your guna (the energetic frame that you embody most) and how they relate to each other. You will also learn how to balance your dossiers and gunas through practices and apply the fundamentals of Ayurveda to your teaching.

MYO-FASCIAL RELEASE WORK
Fascia is the tissue in the body that wraps around our organs, muscles and bones connecting them into one whole, that we call the body. Myo-fascial release work releases “adhesions” in the fascia. Adhesions are when two or more muscles group together and think they are one muscle. There should be space in between the muscles so that they can glide over each other. When this does not happen, they get stuck, reduce mobility, prevent movement and sometimes create pain and weakness. Another reason why myofascial work is so important is that it hydrates the fascia. No matter how much water you drink, if your fascia is not receiving a blood supply, it will dehydrate creating stiffness. Modern anatomy is also starting to acknowledge the connection between fascia and emotional memory; believing that fascia holds our tension patterns, trauma and emotions; literally “our issues are in our tissues”. During fascia release work, many students report of emotional openings and release. This helps students move beyond the blocks toward inner peace and well-being.
On the longer trainings, groups are invited to do the “Saucha Sadhana” 10 day cleanse which gives recipes for juices, smoothies, raw and cooked soups according to your individual dosha. There is also handouts on raw vegan living. On the shorter trainings, there is just a short talk on diet in relation to dosha and adding in more raw vegan foods into your diet. Students will also be invited into the Saucha Sadhana Portal on the website and given handouts on raw vegan eating if desired.
The philosophy integrates elements from the spiritual systems Vedanta, Advaita Vedanta, Samkhya and Tantra to overcome the battle of the mind-body, create resources for people on their life path, create deeper substance in our relationships, journey deeper into life’s mysteries and help unlock the flow of kundalini (divine evolutionary energy) to connect people with their power, freedom and true nature.
“The Art of Teaching Yoga” is a manual for yoga teacher and trainees. This 169 page book offers clear and concise detail outlining yoga instruction, alignment details, common weaknesses teachers need to look out for in the classroom, adjustments and more on a variety of asanas from beginners to advanced. There is also a large section on “Teaching Skills” covering topics such as the importance of observation and demonstration, sequencing, structuring, pacing and principles of vinyasa.
This manual is used on all of the Green Lotus Yoga Teacher Trainings. It is also becoming popular with teachers who have trained in other schools who wish to deepen their knowledge of all aspects of teaching yoga. Many students say it has become their bible for class planning and reference.
A must for teachers and trainees who would like to expand their knowledge of yoga and gain more confidence in their teaching skills.

The retreat will be held in Spain at Suryalila which is an incredibly beautiful yoga centre close to Seville in Southern Spain.
It has 4 yoga spaces, one of which is a large Geodesic dome with an underfloor cooling system (please see from the pictures above). Most of the TTC will be in this dome.
The accommodation is that little bit more plush that the usual retreat standards, with washing machines, kitchens, lounge areas and aircon in the student houses. There is also outdoor yurt and glamping options.
The food is to die for! Included in the price is 3 gorgeous vegetarian meals. They can also cater for Vegan and other diet requirements.
The staff are so supportive and helpful. There is a great yoga shop there, where you can anything from raw chocolate and great Omnitom yoga clothing.
You can also enjoy horse riding, an outdoor pool area, great walks and their latest addition is a sweat lodge.
Students usually love Suryalila. On my last TTC intensive retreat there, 2 students commented that it was “one of the best weeks of their lives”.
‘Glamping’ Tent and the 8 bed dorm accommodation options are included in your fees. If you wish to ‘up-grade’ for the week then additional fees would be required.
Camp in style ‘Glamping’ is short for glamorous camping. Glamp in a beautiful and spacious bell tent, each large enough to stand up in. The glamping tent offers 2 comfortable twin beds, a chest of drawers and hanging rail. The tents overlook the stunning views of the foothills of the Sierra Grazalema. There are four compost toilets and one conventional toilet which are shared by the tents and three hot showers in the glamping area.
If you have concerns with ‘Glamping’ and the Spanish sun then let us reassure you. We have never found this to be an issue with students staying at Suryalila. You will be training during the day in the Shala, with its under floor cooling system and eating undercover, returning to your tents later in the day when the sun is going down.
8 Bed Dorm
The spacious dorm rooms have 8 beds per room with shared bathrooms. They are beautifully appointed and comfortable. The beautiful eight-person dorm is in Casa Saraswati.
Double and Triple Yurts Supplement fees are applicable
Staying in a lovely, spacious yurt is a unique experience. There is a delightful twin or triple yurt fully furnished, with all of the comforts of our other rooms and a back-to-nature ambience. The yurt is located in our “glamping” area overlooking the ancient olive grove and has access to three hot showers, one toilet and 4 eco toilets right beside it. It has a wood burning fire stove for the colder months.

Deluxe and Superior Double & Twin Rooms are situated in houses and have shared bathrooms.
The closest airport is Seville but it is also possible to fly into Malaga. Both airports are well serviced by a number of airlines.
Seville Airport is 1hr from centre and transfers are 90 euros one way
Malaga Airport is 2hrs from the centre the transfer cost is 150 euros one way.
Where ever possible we try and organise transfers to Suryalila with groups of students to help spread the cost. This is depending on your arrival and departure time.

What style of yoga will I be trained to teach?
On this training we put a lot of focus on preparing trainees for the classroom. The style of yoga trainees are trained to teach a Vinyasa. This means ‘breath synchronised movement’. There is also a strong anatomical and alignment focus to the work, so students can also adapt their teachers to teach alignment based hatha yoga. Some students like to change the name to Flow yoga or power yoga etc. These are also forms of Vinyasa.
Can I teach Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga after this training?
There is an Ashtanga influence on our trainings, but this is not an Ashtanga Vinyasa training and even though many of your students are also Ashtanga practitioners, the certificate you receive upon graduation does not qualify you to teach Ashtanga Vinyasa after these trainings. Many people confuse Vinyasa with Ashtanga Vinyasa. Ashtanga Vinyasa is a style of yoga that is a part of the Krishna Macharya lineage which originated in Mysore, India. Vinyasa is a more general term meaning “breath synchronised movement”. The style of asana on our trainings works with some Ashtanga poses and principles like Bandha, Ujjaji breath and creating internal heart to detox and open the body; student’s also study the original Ashtanga Yoga using Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, but the asana on these trainings does not limit itself to Ashtanga sequences and even though we salute Patanjali’s sutras and the spiritual aspects of Eastern thought, our Vinyasa style is more western in approach and teachers are encouraged to work intuitively and creatively when sequences their classes.
Will I have the opportunity to teach on the training course?
Yes you will. There are daily Teaching Methodology classes. You will start teaching one person one pose. Then graduate to teaching small groups of 3. Then finally you will teach the whole class. You will also have a teaching assessment before the end of the training, where you have to sequence your own 90 minute class. You will choose the tone of the class, whether you want it to be upbeat and strengthening, or mellow and relaxing. You can add music, poetry quotes etc; the main thing is to make it your own as much as possible around the specific guidelines you will be given. You will teach half the class on the day of your assessment to the group, but you won’t know which part of the class you will be teaching until just before you teach, so you have to prepare to teach the whole class. We do this to give the trainee the experience of creating, sequencing, pacing, instructing, adjusting and refining a class before they leave the course.
Is it ok to do teacher training just for self-development and to deepen my practice?
Yes it is. Lots of people have done this training as self development. Some have also started it for themselves and ended up teaching… However, even if you do not intend teaching, you will have to partake in the teaching exercizes. Even if you don’t teach yoga, these exercises will teach you so much; they force you to really know your stuff, to study that bit deeper and to learn how to project your voice in front of a group. One student, who was also lecturer in University, told us that the TTC helped her teaching in her college…
How is the course assessed?
There is 4 open book assessments for the Anatomy. We also do circles where we ask questions randomly about alignment, to make sure everyone completely understands these principles. Only one person out of over 250 has failed the course because they could not complete this section. It is not a very difficult section but it is a very important section and Green Lotus Yoga believes that even though Yoga is ultimately a spiritual practice, that teachers have to know the anatomy and alignment basics, so as not to hurt their students and to be able to guide them forward safely. * There is home tasks on Ayurveda and subtle anatomy. * Philosophy is not assessed, but there may be exercises for off time study. * The asana is assessed continually. There is a level of graduation that students work towards. If a student cannot attain the level of graduation and we have seen them work hard during the training and progress to the best of their ability, the student can still pass this section, if they understand exactly why they can’t do the pose and tell their trainer their practice plan in working to this pose. The trainer will also help them with this and explain to them which body parts they need to strengthen and release over a longer time period. Sirsasana – Headstand with no wall Please the morning asana classes also incorporate asanas that are more advanced than the graduation level. These asanas are taught is stages and students work to their own level.
*You will also be assessed on teaching a class. So far everyone has passed this section.
Will I have study time on the TTC? Yes you will. You will have time to study in the evenings and on your days off. Students often like to group study to make it more interesting and fun and have the support of your group. You will also be give “non-contact hours” to practice adjustments etc.
Will I have free time?
Yes, on an intensive there is 3 Saturdays off to rest and avail of local activities.
What type of students attend the trainings?
People who want to deepen and develop their practice and learn how to teach. On the international intensives the age group seems to be a little lower than on the longer Irish trainings- the average age is about 30. We get people form U.S, U.K and other European countries. We get a lot of students in their late twenties who seem to be very confident, adventurous, into travel, healthy living, vegan and vegetarian food and generally pretty cool However this is not the only “type”. Some are less outgoing and/or are undergoing a deeper healing process. We also welcome older people; this can help ground the group and we welcome the maturity to keep the balance.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
A lot of students like to bring their own, but there are mats supplied.
For the Retreat do I need medical travel insurance?
We advise travel insurance.
For the Retreat do I need vaccinations or Malaria pills?
Nothing is recommended for Spain however if you are allergic to mosquitos it is wise to take some repellent

It is best to buy the books as soon as possible to start your reading before the TTC begins. It is not a pre-requisite to pre-read books before the TTC, but during the TTC, you will be learning a lot of new vocabulary, whether it is anatomy, alignment, sanskrit etc. so the sooner you get started the better. Our advice is to start with The Art of Teaching Yoga Manual and the Anatomy Books. You do need to bring the required books with you and they should be in English.
We advise 2 years practice before embarking on a Yoga TTC. This is enough time to give students a firm foundation for the work involved on a TTC and also gives people a base to reach the level expected for graduation. Sometimes people achieve this foundation after a year or so of practice; there are always exceptions, but as a general, we recommend 2 years. When you have read over all of the details of the training, FAQs etc. and if you have the pre-requistive experience, the next step is to fill out the application form, supplied in the next section.

When your application is processed and you are accepted onto the training, we will email you a registration form with details of how to transfer your deposit.
When your deposit comes through, we will email you again to confirm receipt.
* Deposits are non-refundable.
* If a student changes their mind about doing the TTC after deposit has been paid for any reason, their deposit can be transferred to another training course within the next 3 years.
* Costs will be deducted from the deposit for administration and retreat centre fees. Retreat centre fees may not be refunded. This will depend on the retreat centre we are using for that particular TTC and their own policies. Usually, most retreat centres do not refund, once the fees have been paid. Other centres are more flexible. Sometimes we negotiate on behalf of the student asking for deposit back if we can fill the students place. In the case of deferring a TTC to another course within 3 years, Green Lotus will also charge a deferral fee of 200 euros.
TTC Full Fees Refund :
* If a student has to pull out of the course for any reason and their full course fees are paid, tuition fees can be transferred to another course at any time within the next 3 years.
* If there are any prices changes in this time for either the venue or Green Lotus tuition fees, then prices may slightly change to adapt to new fees.
* Retreat centre fees may not be refunded. This will depend on the retreat centre we are using for that particular TTC and their own policies. Usually, most retreat centres do not refund, once the fees has been paid.
* In the case of deferring a TTC to another course within 3 years, a Green Lotus deferral fee of 200 euros will also be charged.
* If a student decides to leave the TTC, has paid full fees and does not want to defer, Green Lotus Yoga will consider, but not guarantee refunding fees for hours not taken. If Green Lotus Yoga does decide to reimburse the student for hours not taken, the 800 euros deposit will be retained by Green Lotus Yoga, plus any additional fees that are non-refundable for the retreat centre (retreat fees may change with different courses).
TTC GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
We would like our students to know that if a student has a complaint on the TTC, we want to hear about it. ! We grow from feedback and we wish to support you, your journey and your training is any way we can. We believe that the guidelines and structures around making complaints that are outlined below will create a sense of safety in the group for both teachers and students, and help you complete the TTC successfully.
What is a grievance or complaint?
A complaint is an expression of dissatisfaction, either written or spoken. A complaint can be made by an individual or a group. You may wish to complain if you are not satisfied with the way you have been treated or the tuition you have received from your teacher.
Your school recognises that complaints are an important part of student feedback.
- All complaints will be investigated fully and fairly.
- Complaints will be dealt with in confidence. The only exception to this is when others could be affected negatively by matters referred to in the complaint.
- If the complainant is not happy with the result of the response to the complaint, they will have the right to appeal to the teachers’ industry body such as Yoga Alliance UK.
- Your school is committed to ensuring that its courses are of the highest quality. The complaints procedure enables your school to respond clearly and properly to complaints and to know when and why people are not satisfied with the courses they provide, so that they can improve them.
How to make a complaint
There are three stages that you can follow to try to resolve the issue. We will always try to resolve any complaint as soon as possible. You may wish to involve an advocate, friend or someone else to support you at any stage.
Speak to Carol Murphy or other trainer if appropriate and try to resolve the complaint informally on the day. You can do this by telling the teacher that you have a complaint that you would like to discuss it. The teacher will then ask you to give a brief outline of what the complaint is. In your brief outline of the complaint, we request that you to refrain from : name calling, swearing, talking on others people behalf or blaming until responsibility has been investigated peacefully. In relation to talking on others behalf, it is better to just talk from your own experience; if you do want to quote what other people are saying, then please ask them to be with you for a group complaint as you are making it. For peace and harmony, it is better is everyone just speaks for themselves.
Therefore all complaints whether verbal or written should be expressed peacefully, spoken from personal experience and not expressing other parties opinions or feelings.
When the teacher has heard your complaint, s/he will ask you if you have a request in relation to the complaint. Please express your request honestly, simply and without going into lots of details at this point that are not relative to the request.
Your trainer will then suggest that you either discuss the complaint at the nearest break, after class or possibly call a group circle about it if s/he thinks that this complaint effects the group and if you are also willing to discuss it with the class.
If you are not satisfied with the response you have received, try to resolve the issue by following stage two.
Outline the details of your complaint by email and send it email@example.com who will investigate the complaint. In your complaint, please refrain from the same actions we referred to in Stage one (name calling, blaming etc.) :
Please also express a request in relation to the complaint. Please express your request honestly, simply and without going into lots of details that are not relative to the request. Therefore all complaints and requests whether verbal or written should be expressed peacefully, without aggression, expressed from personal experience and not expressing other parties options or feelings (unless there is a group complaint, where this must be made evident and written or discussed by all parties complaining).
If the above procedures are not addressed in any complaint process, leading to communication breakdown or aggressive words or behaviour, whether verbal or written, Green Lotus Yoga has the right to tell the student to leave the course. This would only happen if a student was very aggressive and antagonistic. This is to protect the energy of the group and the sacred space of the teaching process. If the student/s complaining adheres to the points above in relation to making their complaint, Green Lotus Yoga believes that they will be able to deal with the complaint more successfully and this will lead to a better, more peaceful outcome, which we believe is what we all want. Green Lotus Yoga wants to hear your complaints. We wish to support you, your journey and your training is any way we can and believe that these guidelines and structures will create a sense of safety in the group for both teachers and students, and help you complete the TTC successfully.
When the person(s) who are dealing with the complaint, have had an opportunity to review it, they will write back to the student who is complaining.
The letter will outline the main elements of your complaint and may ask you to address some issues in more detail. The details of the complaint may have to be teased out over more than one email. During this time, Green Lotus Yoga may suggest a phone call to speed matters up.
The final response from Green Lotus will include the following information:
•A decision about how the complaint will be addressed.
•The reason for the decision
•Any other action that may be taken in light of the complaint.
•If it is not possible to provide a full answer to your complaint within 30 working days, the letter will outline reasons why and give a date by which a full answer is expected.
If you are not satisfied with the final response to your complaint then outline the reasons for your dissatisfaction by letter. Email this to Yoga Alliance UK (if the teachers are Yoga Alliance UK accredited).
CODE OF CONDUCT
This Code of Conduct is a summation and declaration of acceptable, ethical, and professional behavior by which all Yoga Alliance Professionals (aka yoga Alliance UK) registered yoga teachers agree to conduct the teaching and business of Yoga. As a registrant of the Green Lotus Yoga Teacher Training, trainees should agree to uphold the ethical goals set forth in the following Code of Conduct, as outlined by Yoga Alliance Professionals:
- To provide the public with safe and effective yoga classes.
- To maintain and uphold the traditions of Hatha Yoga.
- To conduct myself in a professional and conscientious manner.
- To acknowledge the limitations of my skills and scope of practice and where appropriate refer students to seek alternative instruction, advice, treatment, or direction.
- Create and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for the practice of yoga.
- Encourage diversity actively by respecting all students regardless of age, physical limitations, race, creed, gender, ethnicity, religion affiliation, or sexual orientation.
- Respect the rights, dignity, and privacy of all students.
- Avoid words and actions that constitute sexual harassment.
- Follow all local government laws that pertain to my yoga teaching and business.
Students should agree to comply with the conditions and requirements as set out in the course curriculum, and accept that failure to do so will disqualify them from any accreditation. Furthermore they should vow to uphold the standards of the teachings they have been given, and to maintain and promote the good name of yoga at all times. They must accept that failure to do so may lead to the annulment of any accreditation obtained from the Green Lotus Yoga Teacher Training.
