17th August – 11th September 2019
Taught by Carol Murphy, owner and primary trainer with Green Lotus Yoga. Carol has been teaching yoga for 22 years and training teachers for 11 years. Over 26 days you will deepen your practice, learn how to teach, relax and restore and enjoy 3 days free time to chill out and integrate the teachings.
On this training you can expect to move deeper into relationship with your authentic self and learn how to spread the teachings of yoga from that place. You will be challenged to move beyond any self-limiting beliefs that hold you back from moving forward with your intentions and dreams. This is a physically, mentally and spiritually demanding experience. It is both intense and wonderfully rewarding. Many have told us it has been “life-changing’.
Hello! My name is Carol Murphy. I started Green Lotus Yoga teacher training school in 2007. Since then I have graduated over 300 teachers from my training throughout Ireland and abroad. Most of my work is in Ireland, Spain and India but I have also taught yoga in London, California, South Africa and Morocco.
I like to teach Vinyasa style yoga as mindful, strengthening, slow, deep, breath-centered movement, creating various forms and threads to keep things alive. I am practising yoga 27 years and teaching 20. My background is in Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa, I am also a qualified Neuro-muscular therapist, which is a form of physical therapy that works with fascial meridians and acknowledges the interconnected nature of the body, just like yoga does…
In addition to the above, I have an Arts degree and a masters in Philosophy and Theatre. I have also studied Ayurveda and yoga therapy in India. I am a raw vegan educator (although not 100% vegan or raw), a qualified sports massage therapist, a trained Yin teacher, an Art of Being Tantra instructor, a qualified Trance Dance teacher and I practice and study the Reiki Tummo Method, which combines open heart meditations with reiki and kundalini healing work.
These gifts created solidity and ground from which I can rise and fly, roots and wings, creating safety, balance, expansion and joy in my life and for this I am grateful.

17th August – 11th September 2018
This TTC takes places over 25 days. There are 3 Saturdays at the end of each week.
The Daily schedule is:
7.00-9.30 – Pranayama and Asana
9.30-10.30 – Breakfast
10.30-11.55 – Theory Class (possibly anatomy, philosophy etc.)
11.55-12.05 – Break
12.05- 1.30 Teaching Methodology (studying asana in great detail from the manual, teaching poses in groups, sequencing, adjustments etc.)
3.00-4.00 Theory (possibly anatomy, philosophy etc.)
4.100- 5.30- Second asana class, meditation or pranayama or Teaching Methodology.
Progressive Vinyasa is a style of vinyasa that is flowing, creative and intelligent. It is called “progressive” because it incorporates modern vinyasa approaches, like ladder flows, mandala flows etc; it is also progressive because the sequencing progresses up to peak poses and/or a “focus” section where new poses are introduced and broken down synergistically.. Additionally progressive vinyasa, progresses students forward in their development using an intelligence in sequencing based on cutting edge knowledge of yoga anatomy and universal principles of alignment.
There are daily Teaching Methodology classes, so that you will feel prepared for the classroom and feel fully equipped to deliver the work after you graduate. You will be taught a specific methodology with sequencing options and alignment principles that create structures to intelligently inform your classes, which also allow enough flexibility for you to develop your own individual teaching voice as an expression of your authentic self and your relationship with the practice.
The yoga anatomy taught on the 200 hr trainings is cutting edge. It incorporates principle of biomechanics, synergy and myofascial meridians. These classes allows you to dive into a deeper relationship with your body on and off the mat. They also equip you to understanding other people’s bodies in relation to postural holdings and common troubleshooting areas in relation to asana.
PRANIC HEALING ENERGY WORK AND MEDITATIONS
The philosophy on our trainings is delivered in a non-dogmatic way and invites group discussion where all beliefs and opinions are respected. We use class discussions, circles, artwork, chanting, empathetic listening and meditation processes to explore Patanjali’s sutras. This exploration aims to strengthen the mind, emotions and spirit and create a spiritual rock to lean on in times of need, deeper insight to our true nature and a deeper sense of worth that lies inherent in our being. It is a true blessing to be able to explore this work within a group and many students have told us that that this part of the training has been life changing for them.
OTHER RECOMMENDED READING
We also recommend the following anatomy books, which are great visual references, but are not on the ‘essential’ reading list, so we will not be using them directly in the classroom.
Suryalila Retreat Centre is an incredibly beautiful yoga centre close to Seville in Southern Spain.
It has 4 yoga spaces, one of which is a large Geodesic dome with an underfloor cooling system (please see from the pictures above). Most of the TTC will be in this dome.
The accommodation is that little bit more plush that the usual retreat standards, with washing machines, kitchens, lounge areas and aircon in the student houses. There is also outdoor yurt and glamping options. The food is to die for. The staff are so supportive and helpful. There is a great yoga shop there, where you can anything from raw chocolate and great Omnitom yoga clothing to tampons ! There is also horse riding, an outdoor pool area, great walks and their latest addition is a sweat lodge ! Students usually love Suryalila. On my last TTC intensive retreat there, 2 students commented that it was “one of the best weeks of their lives”.
Gourmet Vegetarian Cuisine
At Suryalila Retreat Centre, they have an outstanding vegetarian fare. Meals are delicious, diverse, and beautifully presented, using all organic and mostly local ingredients. They are working towards suppling more and more of produce needs from their own organic farm and garden!
The kitchen is a happy and bustling environment and the cooks are all very creative and talented. The Suryalila Kitchen specializes in gourmet international vegetarian cuisine, using the freshest seasonal, locally-sourced organic fruits and vegetables available, artfully prepared in a varied and truly eclectic international menu. Eggs are gathered daily from our own happy chickens and when the season allows you will enjoy the freshest of fruit picked from our own orchard of apricot, peach, fig and pear trees!
They regularly accommodate vegan, gluten-free, and non-dairy diets, so if you have any special dietary restrictions, just let us know!
The gourmet vegetarian cuisine will be one of the greatest food experiences of your life and we promise you, you will be raving about the food long after you return home!
The closest airport is Seville but it is also possible to fly into Malaga and get a bus or train to the retreat. Pickups can be arranged from Villamartin which is only a short ride to the centre.
We also organise group transfers from both airports at reasonable rates for a car holding up to 4 people. The cost of the transfer is shared between passengers.
Malaga is 2hrs from the centre the transfer cost is 150 euros one way.
Seville is 1hr from the retreat and transfers are 90 euros one way.
After your flights are booked, please fill in the Travel information form so that we can organise your transfers for you.
When considering doing a teacher training, its a good idea to hear what other people have to say about it. Here are some testimonials from former students.
Eleanor shares her experience of becoming a Yoga teacher in her recent Blog the training took place in Spain 2107.
Eleanor Coales (Green + Aquamarine) – Ireland
“Carol’s years of dedication to yoga have provided an extraordinary depth of knowledge and experience of all its aspects. She combines a refreshing strictness and rigour in her methodology and teaching practise with a sensitivity to spirit that provides an intellectually, physically and emotionally challenging and life enriching experience. I thoroughly recommend her and the training course she has created.”
“I honestly don’t think I could have chosen a better teacher training. Carol’s depth of experience and knowledge across Iyengar, Ashtanga, anatomy and philosophy allows her to give her trainees the strongest of foundations from which to both practice and teach yoga. Her love, passion and respect for the teachings infused every class, and the course content consistently spoke to the heart of the yoga journey and all it can offer. As a result the training transformed my personal practice and I would recommend it to anyone with a thirst to learn more about yoga, to deepen their practice and to work hard! You’ll leave completely inspired and hungry for more.”
Robyn Cherwell, London
“It was an amazing experience! I was looking for a yoga training which covers in-depth knowledge about the movement of the yoga postures. I’m glad I found the right one! I loved the yoga anatomy of this program. It was like an eye opener! Now I realise how I was practising so many yoga poses in a wrong way and that is why there was so much pain. No one ever told me about it in the yoga studios I have been going to back home in Delhli. The course content is super from all aspects. The Ayurveda and Philosophy sessions were meaningful and beautiful! It all comes from Carol’s life experience and study from so many years. She is a great teacher with great knowledge! I sincerely thanks Carol for putting this all together in this training. Now I have much more knowledge about the yoga postures and can teach safely. I highly recommend this TTC for not only learning how to teach but also for enhancing one’s self-practice and awareness about life in general. Will definitely do the 300 hr TTC after two years !! “
Monika Bansal -Delhi
“Carol delivered everything promised of her 200 hour Vinyasa training, and more! She was supportive, encouraging, kind, intelligent and talented in her work as a teacher — I didn’t have the strongest asana practice when I arrived but the right motivational words from Carol saw me through to the end and I am now a qualified teacher! 🙂 Carol’s intelligence and sensitivity towards the individual needs of her students is, I believe, what makes her so special. She is highly educated, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what she does. I learned so much in one month and really feel as though the positive lifestyle changes I made over in India will stay with me now that I’m back in the UK — she has inspired me! Cannot recommend the course enough.”
Jessica Des Landes, London
The YTT was an experience I will never forget. The course content was very diverse and well balanced. Alignment is key in Carols work, and I am grateful to have built a solid foundation for my teaching journey ahead. Carol is an extremely knowledgable and inspiring teacher and I really enjoyed studying yoga anatomy, philosophy, Ayurveda and all the other subjects with her. I feel the course has given me a good understanding of teaching yoga, as well as the practical skills and confidence needed to teach a class. Thanks again for the wonderful experience
Lianne Bloemen, London
“Carol’s yoga teacher training intensive is just that; intensive. It is also a life changing. Carol has a wealth of knowledge and a deep love for the many and varied facets of yoga. Having spent years obtaining this knowledge, it is clear she has a desire to share it. This makes for fascinating insights into the world of yoga both on a practical level -with detailed anatomy lectures and on a spiritual/emotional level.
She offers support but more importantly gives her students the tools to manage for themselves. Her training offers a safe exploration into the world of meditation and spirituality, where people are held and supported appropriately.
Carol’s morning classes were dynamic, fun and at times challenging. The flow from movement to movement powered by the breath makes for a beautiful practice. The technical classes were also excellent with clear breakdown of asanas and good instruction, including some helpful tips to master that new pose.
I have come away feeling confident in my ability to teach. Feeling rich with the knowledge I have been given and having made some special bonds. My own practice has improved and I have a clear understanding of the areas I need to work on and how and why. Thank you….. “
Jo Stephans, London
“It has been a privilege to train with a teacher of Carol’s caliber. Her dedication, passion and knowledge is incredible. Her ability to ‘get’ where each of her students are in their bodies and how and when they are ready to be pushed to the next stage, to open or strengthen the body more and develop towards the next expression of the pose is more than reassuring, it is impressive. Her creative ability to spontaneously ‘workshop’ a pose that she ferls the class is having difficulty with is inspirational and effective. In her led practice you may suddenly find yourself in a pose that only moments before was unavailable to you! Her ability to relate modern anatomy to the poses really helps students to deepen the expression of a pose safely and effectively both in their own practice and also provides them with the relevant points, via her training manual, to pass on to their own students. Her training aims to equip students with more than just the basics. She passes on her knowledge of the energetics involved in each asana in order that student teachers can then emulate her teaching style, by using the framework she provides, to co-create balanced classes with their own students. Of course, this is equally helpful in developing one’s own home practice. Carol introduces other aspects of yoga and spirituality too – many an interesting and eye -opening discussion has been had in class! I would highly recommend training with Carol, especially if you like training hard! “
Cariosa Cullen- Ireland
“Be prepared for a life changing experience. My training was a very personal journey which has given me the tools to deal with anything life throws at me and the ability to move chaos into order. It has thought me to observe rather than react in my Asana practice, and to be patient with my body. This course has been a journey of self reflection and discipline where I learned to tackle the body and mind bringing me to a place of stillness. The training had well thought out techniques and alignment principles which has me very confident that I could teach yoga safely. The course is very well structured. The early week intensive training in Spain built immense trust and fantastic relationships within our group which continued and grew throughout the 9 months on our weekend trainings. There was never a sense of competition and the only ego to deal with was your own.Carol is an amazing and well experienced teacher. Her passion, her knowledge, her belief and love for all aspects of yoga is inspiring! She always radiates positive energy, yet is assertive when she needs to be. I appreciate the pressure that was put on me to learn alignment principles in order to modify some of my previous ways of practising to bring me to a safer more aware practice.
The 10 day detox was great – it thought me about foods/superfoods which were essential in keeping my dosha in balance thereby grounding and calming me from the inside out. My diet is a lot healthier and more interesting as a result of this course and the nutribullet is now one of my favourite companions.
Finally this course is hard work and a big commitment but so enjoyable & interesting with such rewarding returns. Carol is talented, intelligent, grounded, humble and has great wisdom & experiences which she generously imparts. Thank you for sharing some of your expertise with me. Namaste 😉
Kerry O’ Connor – Ireland
“The thought struck me today to get in touch- just really to express in words a little gratitude (which I do in my mind and sharing with people but thought maybe never directly to you since the course days!) .. Gratitude for the training and the yoga years in Devon Lodge. I feel I may have underestimated what I believe the true value of your work and what I learned from it was to go back to the core principles and teachings. And during the course, from a physio point of view too, I always really loved, trusted and respected the work and way you brought and presented the teachings.”
Grainne Flannery, Physiotherapist – Ireland
“Thanks again for a wonderful month of growth, inspiration and transformation, and all the love and energy that you give to your teaching!”
Fiona Ashley, Ireland
“I’ve been thinking to write you an email for ages. Mostly just to tell you how grateful I am that I took your teacher training 2 years ago in Spain. I’ve been teaching ever since. This year I spent almost 2 months in Rishikesh, India where I took my 300hr training. There I realized how strong yoga foundation you have given me comparing to other students. I must say I loved my time spent in India, I learned a lot about myself as a person and I definitely grew as a person but yoga wise – I don’t think I learned as much as I did from your 200hr training. Maybe those were cultural differences and perception of yoga in general. I don’t want to compare anything really, because all knowledge is good but when I’m teaching my classes – I still come back to your teachings 🙂 Thank you!”

THE TRAINING COURSE
Is there any pre-requisites to entering this training ?
We advise 2 years practice before embarking on a Yoga TTC. This is enough time to give students a firm foundation for the work involved on a TTC and also gives people a base to reach the level expected for graduation. Sometimes people achieve this foundation after a year or so of practice; there are always exceptions, but as a general, we recommend 2 years. If you are unsure if you have enough experience, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
What style of yoga will I be trained to teach?
On this training we put a lot of focus on preparing trainees for the classroom. The style of yoga trainees are trained to teach is called Progressive Vinyasa. This is a style of vinyasa that is flowing, creative and intelligent. It is called “progressive” because it incorporates modern vinyasa approaches to progress students forward in their development using an intelligence in sequencing based on cutting edge knowledge of yoga anatomy and universal principles of alignment. As this style of yoga is flexible in nature, teachers also have the option of adapting their teachings to teach alignment based Hatha yoga, Flow yoga or Power yoga etc.
Will I have the opportunity to teach on the training course?
Yes you will. There are daily Teaching Methodology classes. You will start teaching one person one pose. Then graduate to teaching small groups of 3. Then finally you will teach the whole class for your final assessment.
Is it ok to do teacher training just for self-development and to deepen my practice?
Yes it is. Lots of people have done this training as self development. Some have also started it for themselves and ended up teaching… Its completely up to you.
How is the course assessed?
Anatomy- There is 4 open book assessments for anatomy. There may also be assessment circles where we ask questions randomly about alignment, to make sure everyone completely understands these principles. We have a 100% pass rate on this section.
Philosophy- this subject is not assessed, but there may be exercises for off time study.
Asana – We work towards level 3 posture work and all students practice to their own level, modifying when necessary. After graduation, teachers teach to the level they can practice comfortably. If a trainee’s personal practice needs a lot of work, on graduation, we sometimes recommend that these teachers teach level 1 only for a year or so as they continue to develop their practice.
Teaching Methodology- Students prepare an hour long class and teach the class to the group on the last week of the training. We start preparation for this exercise on day one so students will be very prepared. We want trainees to leave not only with a cert, but also with the ability to prepare a class and the knowledge that they can teach it confidently and clearly.
How many students are in the group ?
Numbers are capped to 25 students.
Is this training course registered or is this course qualified me to be a teacher?
This training is registered with Yoga Professionals (aka Yoga Alliance UK) and Yoga Alliance USA – graduates of this program can therefore register with either body at a 200 hrs level. If at some point you wanted to continue your studies, you will be able to do it with an American or European training school.
