Carol Murphy

CAROL PROFILE

Carol Murphy is the lead trainer of this course and the founder of Green Lotus Yoga. This Progressive Vinyasa training is her signature program, which she has taught over 35 times in Ireland, Spain, India, and Morocco since first launching it in Galway in 2006. Carol started with Iyengar Yoga, later dedicating years to Ashtanga Vinyasa with annual studies in Mysore under Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy.

In later years, she broadened her scope to embrace both the dynamic and therapeutic aspects of Vinyasa Yoga — training in strong, physically challenging Vinyasa with Bryce Yoga and gentle Viniyoga as part of her Yoga Therapy certification.

With decades of teaching experience, Carol is ready to guide you every step of the way to deepen your practice and evolve into a confident, skilled teacher. She is excited to be offering a yoga teacher training in Perth and sharing the Progressive Vinyasa Method to yoga practitioners in Australia.

Tash Katsimbardis

Tash Katsimbardis, Green Lotus Yoga Trainer, standing outside Energy Yoga Centre in Perth during the 200-Hour Progressive Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training.

With over 20 years of experience as an Ashtanga practitioner and more than 8 years of teaching Vinyasa and children’s yoga, Tash brings a rich, diverse approach to the mat.

She’s also a dedicated strength and conditioning enthusiast, a trained pranic healer, a mum to three beautiful kids, and when she’s not in the studio, you might find her immersed in her other passion—designing and building spaces through architecture.

Tash is a 300hr certified children’s yoga teacher and an alignment-based Vinyasa teacher with additional studies in Functional Yoga Anatomy, myofascial meridians, and postural imbalances. Her classes blend strength and softness—focusing on functional alignment, joint stability, mobility, and core strength to help support the demands of our modern lifestyles. Expect breathwork, mindfulness, and a flowing, thoughtful practice that not only moves the body but also helps activate the nervous system’s rest-and-restore response.

Tash has taught students from ages 3 to 76 in private sessions, mainstream and specialist schools, and group settings. She’s passionate about empowering people of all ages and abilities to develop a deeper connection to themselves, and to discover tools that support long-term physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

Her philosophy is simple and powerful: yoga is a lifelong journey. A practice that helps us come home to ourselves again and again—through breath, awareness, and movement. Her goal is to inspire students to live from the heart, grounded in presence and self-love.

Is there any pre-requisites to entering this training ?

We advise 2 years practice before embarking on a Yoga TTC. This is enough time to give students a firm foundation for the work involved on a TTC and also gives people a base to reach the level expected for graduation. Sometimes people achieve this foundation after a year or so of practice; there are always exceptions, but as a general, we recommend 2 years. If you are unsure if you have enough experience, please contact us at carol@greenlotusyoga.com

Do I have to be fit and strong to join the training?

No, many people work on developing strength and flexibility throughout the training. Many students also have injuries, repetitive stress or postural issues that they work with as they train. If you work to your limitations, prop and modify, then you will see progress as you train.

How much do I have to practice mid month between weekends?

Ideally you can find time to practice daily to really see progress, but this is not always an option and so we recommend that you practice at least 3 hrs per week minimum just to keep up. You can also sign up to the online platform www.greenlotusyogaonline.ie to help you develop your practice throughout the year; the classes on the platform are varied in duration and level and are created with the intention of supporting trainees throughout the year.

What style of yoga will I be trained to teach?

On this training we put a lot of focus on preparing trainees for the classroom. The style of yoga trainees are trained to teach is called Progressive Vinyasa. This is a style of vinyasa that is flowing, creative and intelligent. It is called “progressive” because it incorporates modern vinyasa approaches to progress students forward in their development using an intelligence in sequencing based on cutting edge knowledge of yoga anatomy and universal principles of alignment. As this style of yoga is flexible in nature, teachers also have the option of adapting their teachings to teach alignment-based Hatha yoga,  Flow yoga or Power yoga etc.

Will I have the opportunity to teach on the training course?

Yes you will. There are daily Teaching Methodology classes. You will start teaching one person one pose. Then graduate to teaching small groups of 3. Then finally you will teach the whole class for your final assessment.

Is it ok to do teacher training just for self-development and to deepen my practice?

Yes it is. Lots of people have done this training as self development. Some have also started it for themselves and ended up teaching… Its completely up to you.

Is this training suitable if I am working through grief, trauma, anxiety and depression?

This is not a simple question to answer, but an important one. This particular training is asana focused, meaning when you sign up you are committing to developing your asana practice. The asana on this training is not geared towards healing trauma, grief etc. However, this is not to say that you cannot do this training if you are working with your mental and emotional health, if you have a foundation practice and feel that you have the inner strength to  develop your asana practice. Some people working with anxiety, depression etc. may find developing a stronger practice helpful and some people working with depression etc. may simply not be suited to a slower practice. Its up to you. Additionally, the yoga philosophy and spiritual studies, breath-work etc on this training can also very much support mental, emotional and spiritual health.

How is the course assessed?

Anatomy- There is 7 open book homework quizzes for anatomy.
If you do not pass a quiz, then you just re-take it again, but most students pass the first time around.

Philosophy- this subject is not assessed, but there may be exercises for off time study.

Asana – The asana focus on this training is to strengthen and develop your practice, modifying when necessary. There is no official assessment level. However to graduate you need to demonstrate that you understand the practice, can modify safely and have showed progress throughout the year.

After graduation, teachers teach to the level they can practice comfortably. If a trainee’s personal practice needs a lot of work, upon graduation, we sometimes recommend that these teachers teach level 1 only for a year or so as they continue to develop their practice.

Teaching Methodology- Students prepare an hour long class and teach the class to the group on the last week of the training. We start preparation for this exercise on day one so students will be very prepared. We want trainees to leave not only with a cert, but also with the ability to prepare a class and the knowledge that they can teach it confidently and clearly

How many students are in the group ?

We take up to 25 on a training. Numbers are usually between 10-25 students.

Is this training course registered or is this course qualified me to be a teacher?

This training is registered with Yoga Alliance. Yoga Alliance is the most recognised Yoga registration body world-wide. This certification will qualify you to teach Yoga anywhere in the world.

Can I teach teens after this training ?
In order to teach teens, a teacher should have completed a children’s teacher training course to teach groups of children under the age of 16.If however a child between the age of 12-16 wants to join an adult class, then they can so long as they are with a parent or guardian and have a written consent from from their parent or guardian.
Anyone teaching groups of children (in the absence of a parent or guardian) should have CRB (or equivalent) document check and if they are members of YAP, they should send this to us, so we can keep this on their file.
Please note it is a condition of the policy that all records are kept for a minimum of 7 years after the client has reached the age of 18.

Do I need to bring my own yoga mat and props?

A lot of students like to bring their own props, but all props are also supplied in the studio.
