Chair Yoga Training

october 18th-19th 2025

The Chair Yoga Teacher Training trains yoga teachers how to adapt the teachings of yoga for students with limited mobility or anyone looking for a gentle practice. Chair Yoga offers a supportive and accessible way for students of all ages and ability levels to  enjoy the benefits of yoga.

Being able to teach yoga to a range of groups, abilities and bodies is so important to ensure yoga is inclusive and accessible. It also makes practical and financial sense, allowing you to offer more classes at different times of the day. Throughout the chair yoga training you’ll learn how to teach seated yoga, use the chair as a prop when standing and incorporate aspects of yoga that can easily be done seated into a class including pranayama and meditation. You’ll explore the needs of your students, including physical and health reasons that might require a seated yoga practice. Understanding and responding to this adds a sensitivity to your yoga teaching that feeds into all other classes you teach.

Training highlights

  • Chair Yoga as Therapy and Medical Integration: Learn how to integrate yoga with medical and become the change you want to see. Chair yoga is currently being integrated into medical settings in the U.S as the number one form of Yoga Therapy, mirroring the Green lotus vision of how Yoga Therapy could evolve in Ireland. This would empower elderly and less mobile people to take control of their health, alongside medical.
  • Foundations of Chair Yoga: Understand the principles and benefits of chair yoga, and how it can enhance flexibility, strength, and mental well-being for diverse populations.
  • Sequencing and Class Design: Gain skills in creating balanced and engaging chair yoga sequences, tailored to the needs and abilities of your students.
  • Adaptations and Modifications: Learn to adapt traditional yoga postures for the chair, ensuring safe and effective practice for seniors, individuals with disabilities, office workers, and those recovering from injuries.
  • Breathwork and Meditation: How to integrate breathwork (pranayama) and meditation techniques into chair yoga classes to promote relaxation and mental clarity.
  • Teaching Methodology: Develop your teaching style with practical tips on effective communication, student engagement, and creating an inclusive, supportive environment.
