Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Training

HEAL: Healing through Embodiment, Awareness, and Liberation is a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools to support students and clients navigating the challenges of trauma, depression, grief, and anxiety. You’ll explore the profound impact of trauma on both body and mind, and learn how to guide students toward healing and empowerment through integrative embodiment practices that foster resilience, presence, and inner freedom.

TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS

  • THE APPROACH
    • Asana: Therapeutic yoga poses tailored to release tension and trauma stored in the body.
    • Chant: Vocal practices to stimulate the vagus nerve and promote emotional release and relaxation.
    • Breathwork: Breath control techniques to calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety.
    • Meditation: Mindfulness practices to cultivate presence, reduce stress, and foster emotional balance.
    • Yoga Philosophy and Psychology – Learning yoga for the mind and emotions in relation to traditional yoga philosophy and eastern and western psychology. 
    • Sharing Circle – The etiquette of circle sharing and leading a circle.
    • Art Therapy – Explore your samsaras (karmic patterns holding you back) with crayons and paper

  • UNDERSTANDING TRAUMA
    • The physiological and psychological impact of trauma, depression, grief, and anxiety.
    • Polyvagal Theory and practices
    • How these experiences manifest in the body and influence behaviour, emotions, posture and health
  • HEALING TOOLS
    • Interoceptive Practices: Techniques to help students read their energetic state of being in order to apply the correct practices to bring balance to the mind and body. 
    • Integrative Embodiment Practices: Techniques to help individuals reconnect with their bodies and foster a sense of safety and grounding.
    • Empowering and Uplifting Practices: Methods to uplift and empower students, helping them regain a sense of control and resilience.
    • Neurogenic Shaking to release trauma 
  • TEACHING TRAUMA SENSITIVE YOGA
    • Equipping trainees with the skills and understanding necessary to hold space for students navigating difficult emotional landscapes, such as depression, trauma, and grief. 
    • Learning how to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where students feel empowered to explore their experiences without pressure or fear.

Meet Your Teacher

Carol Murphy is the founder and lead trainer of Green Lotus Yoga, with over 28 years of experience exploring and teaching the many facets of yoga. Since 2006, she has been training yoga teachers in Ireland and internationally, and in 2018, she created her 300-hour Therapeutic Yoga Training, which she continues to offer annually. 

Carol’s diverse training background includes Iyengar, Ashtanga, Bryce Vinyasa and 800 hr IAYT Yoga Therapy with Soul of Yoga, where she studied extensively with some of the world’s leading yoga therapists and educators. Carol offers One-To-One Yoga Therapy Sessions online and at Yogamoves in Gort, Galway, and is passionate about supporting students and clients on their healing journeys — while empowering them to do the same for others.

CHAKRA MEDITATION

Hybrid Training & Attendence Requirements

This training will take place in the Yogamoves studio in Gort, Galway, Ireland. We would love if you could make it to the studio, however qualified teachers  can attend this training on Zoom or via recordings if they wish.

Suitability

  • Yoga Teachers who wish to gain confidence teaching the philosophical and spiritual aspects of the practice in relation to mental health and well-being. 
  • Yoga teachers who wish to learn how to hold a trauma-sensitive healing space for others.
  • Yoga teachers working with compassions burnout or vicarious trauma who wish to replenish and fill their cup. 

Accreditations

Registered Yoga Alliance Yoga School  and Continued Education Provider 

This training can work towards 300 hr Advanced Therapeutic Certification. 

Pre-requisite

TTo attend this course, students should be a qualified yoga teacher or a trainee on another programme.
