Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Training

This training offers a comprehensive program designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools to support students and clients who are navigating the challenges of trauma, depression, grief, and anxiety. You will explore the profound impact of  trauma on the body and mind and learn how to guide your students towards healing and empowerment through a combination of integrative embodiment practices.

    • Asana: Therapeutic yoga poses tailored to release tension and trauma stored in the body.
    • Chant: Vocal practices to stimulate the vagus nerve and promote emotional release and relaxation.
    • Breathwork: Breath control techniques to calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety.
    • Meditation: Mindfulness practices to cultivate presence, reduce stress, and foster emotional balance.
    • Yoga Philosophy and Psychology – Learning yoga for the mind and emotions in relation to traditional yoga philosophy and eastern and western psychology.

    • The physiological and psychological impact of trauma, depression, grief, and anxiety.
    • How these experiences manifest in the body and influence behaviour, emotions, posture and health

    • Interoceptive Practices: Techniques to help students read their energetic state of being in order to apply the correct practices to bring balance to the mind and body. 
    • Integrative Embodiment Practices: Techniques to help individuals reconnect with their bodies and foster a sense of safety and grounding.
    • Empowering and Uplifting Practices: Methods to uplift and empower students, helping them regain a sense of control and resilience.

    • Equipping trainees with the skills and understanding necessary to hold space for students navigating difficult emotional landscapes, such as depression, trauma, and grief. 
    • Learning how to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where students feel empowered to explore their experiences without pressure or fear.

Meet Your Teacher

Carol Murphy is the founder and lead trainer with Green Lotus Yoga. Carol has always been interested in Yoga for mental health and spiritual growth. She studied philosophy and psychology in NuiGalway and Trinity College in addition to exploring Yoga spirituality through the Yoga Sutras with Jayashri in Mysore, India.  She has studied Yoga Therapy with Soul Of Yoga in the U.S. where she learned trauma-sensitive yoga with Amy Weintraub, author of  “Yoga For Depression” and ‘Yoga Skills for Therapists” and Yoga for PTSD with clinical psychologist and Yoga Therapist Richard Millar, in addition to continuing her Sutra studies with Nishala Joy Devi, author of “The Secret Power of Yoga.” 

With a passion for empowering yoga teachers, Carol weaves together these psychological and therapeutic yogic tools and techniques to help teachers feel confident teaching yoga to students navigating difficult emotions.

CHAKRA MEDITATION

Hybrid Training & Attendence Requirements

This training will take place in the Yogamoves studio in Gort, Galway, Ireland. We would love if you could make it to the studio, however qualified teachers  can attend this training on Zoom or via recordings if they wish.

Suitability

  • Yoga Teachers who wish to gain confidence teaching the philosophical and spiritual aspects of the practice in relation to mental health and well-being. 
  • Yoga teachers who wish to learn how to hold a trauma-sensitive healing space for others.
  • Yoga teachers working with compassion burnout or vicarious trauma who wish to replenish and fill their cup. 

Accreditations

Registered Yoga Alliance Yoga School  and Continued Education Provider 

This training can work towards 300 hr Advanced Therapeutic Certification.

Pre-requisite

To attend this course, students should be a qualified yoga teacher or a trainee on another programme.
